About Acumatica

Acumatica is a cloud ERP platform covering financials, distribution, manufacturing, construction and professional services. Its accounting core includes general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, cash management and reporting, and it is sold through a partner channel rather than direct.

The 2026 R1 release, generally available in 2026, added AI Studio, a framework that lets finance, operations and purchasing staff define automated ERP workflows in plain English with no coding, and an AI Assistant in early access that answers questions about business data in natural language and returns formatted results. The same release added embedded payments, tighter transaction integrations and faster invoice handling through AP automation. Acumatica licenses by resource consumption rather than per user, which distinguishes it from most mid-market ERP pricing.

It is positioned at growing mid-market businesses and the accountants who support them, particularly those that have outgrown small business ledgers but do not want per-seat ERP licensing.

Our in-depth review

Acumatica is a long-standing mid-market ERP that has spent 2026 folding AI into workflows rather than bolting a chatbot onto the front of the product.

What it does well. AI Studio is the more interesting of the two additions, because it targets the people who actually know the process. Letting a finance manager describe an approval or matching workflow in plain English, and have the system build it, addresses the real bottleneck in ERP automation, which is developer time. The AI Assistant handles the familiar problem of business users who cannot write a report query. Resource-based licensing rather than per-user pricing remains a genuine differentiator for firms with many occasional users, and the wider 2026 R1 work on embedded payments and AP automation is solid, if unexciting, plumbing.

Where it falls short. The AI Assistant was released in early access with broader availability promised later, so buyers evaluating it now are looking at an incomplete feature. Acumatica's own release messaging leans heavily on manufacturing, distribution and retail, and finance-specific AI capability is thinner than the marketing implies. There are no published independent benchmarks for the accuracy or time savings of either AI feature. Because Acumatica sells through partners, implementation quality and cost vary considerably by reseller, and there is no public price list to anchor a negotiation. This is a full ERP implementation, not a tool you switch on.

Best for. Mid-market businesses replacing an outgrown small business ledger, and the accountants advising them, who value consumption-based licensing over per-seat costs.

Verdict. A dependable mid-market ERP whose 2026 AI additions are useful and sensibly placed, though still early enough that they should not drive the buying decision.
