About Double
Double, formerly known as Keeper, is month-end close software that sits on top of a client's ledger with a live two-way sync. For bookkeeping and accounting firms it combines file review tools that catch coding errors, a branded client portal and app, client communication, a client database, task management, a tax suite and 1099 management. A separate offering for internal finance teams automates transactions, reconciliations and journal entries.
AI features include AI Bank Feeds, which group transactions into matches, rules, automatic classifications and items needing review, AI Transactions, AI Workflows and Ask Double, a plain-language assistant that can inspect a P&L, create tasks and prepare workpapers. Accruals and receipts are also covered, output is staged for review before posting, and the company has an MCP server for connecting workflows to ChatGPT or Claude. The site lists direct integrations with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage and NetSuite. A December 2025 funding report covering its $6.5 million Series A said more than 4,000 firms in North America use it.
Firms pay monthly per connected client with unlimited users; internal finance teams buy a flat annual plan by quote. It suits bookkeeping and client accounting services firms of all sizes.

Our in-depth review
Double is built for the monthly grind of a bookkeeping firm: dozens or hundreds of client files that each need transactions coded, accounts reconciled, questions sent to the client and a review before the month is called closed. It replaces the spreadsheet checklist and the chain of emails with one workspace sitting on the client's own ledger.
What it does well. The two-way sync with QuickBooks Online and Xero means work done in Double lands in the client's books, so there is no second ledger to maintain. File review that flags miscoding, plus a client portal where uncategorised transactions go for an answer, targets the two biggest time sinks in a bookkeeping practice. The AI is applied sensibly: it suggests and stages, and the accountant approves. Per-client pricing with unlimited users rewards firms that grow their team, and the client counts reported in funding coverage suggest a mature user base for a young product.
Where it falls short. Public pricing is vague: the site explains the per-client model but does not show tier prices, so get a quote at your client count and compare it with your current stack. It is built for North America, with 1099 tools and a US tax suite, and I found nothing for MTD, HMRC or UK VAT returns; UK firms will still need their own filing route. Sage and NetSuite links are listed, but QuickBooks Online and Xero are the files that count as connected clients for billing, so check how well other ledgers work. Custom AI agents were still in private beta in August 2026.
Best for. Bookkeeping and client accounting services firms running many QuickBooks Online or Xero clients who want close, review and client chasing in one place. UK firms may find Karbon or Senta better for practice management, but few UK tools do ledger-level file review this well.
Verdict. One of the strongest close tools for bookkeeping firms, with sound AI and fair per-client pricing. Trial it on five of your messiest Xero files, measure review time against last month, and check the client portal response rate before moving everyone over.
