About Finofo

Finofo is a Calgary-built finance automation platform that started in accounts payable and has since extended into expense management and purchasing. Vendor invoices, corporate card expenses, employee claims, purchase orders, approvals, payments and reconciliation all run through one queue with a single approval model and one posting path into the accounting system already in use.

The company announced its AI-native accounts payable product for Canadian finance teams in May 2026 and added expense management and purchasing on 9 September 2026. Its distinguishing decision is commercial rather than technical: Finofo does not issue cards and does not require adoption of a new corporate card programme as the price of better expense management, so finance teams keep the cards they already hold with their bank. That removes the switching cost that blocks most spend management deals.

Pricing is usage-based and quoted rather than published, and the product is positioned at small and mid-sized finance teams, with particular traction in Canadian e-commerce and retail.

Key Features

  • Vendor invoices, card expenses, employee claims and purchase orders run through a single queue and approval model
  • AI extraction and coding with a single posting path into the existing ERP or accounting system
  • Purchase order creation and matching alongside AP, so commitments and invoices reconcile
  • No card issuance required, so existing bank corporate card programmes stay in place

Our in-depth review

Finofo's pitch rests on a single observation that most of its competitors would rather not discuss, which is that spend management vendors generally make their money on card interchange and therefore need you to switch cards.

What it does well. Decoupling expense management from card issuance is a genuinely useful piece of positioning, because the card switch is what usually kills these projects: the treasury relationship, the credit line and the rewards programme all sit with the incumbent bank. Finofo lets those stay put. Bringing AP, expenses and purchase orders into one queue with one approval model and one posting path is the right architecture, since the alternative is three tools writing to the ledger in three different ways and a reconciliation problem at month end. Adding purchasing means commitments and invoices can actually be matched rather than reconciled after the fact.

Where it falls short. This is a small, young, regionally concentrated company. Coverage and support outside Canada are unproven, pricing is neither published nor benchmarked, and 'AI-native' is the vendor's framing for extraction and coding capability that the larger AP vendors also claim. No funding, customer count or accuracy figure has been published, and there is no independent review volume to test the claims against. The purchasing and expense modules shipped in September 2026, so they are new enough that early-adopter friction should be expected.

Best for. Canadian small and mid-sized finance teams that want AP, expense and purchase order automation in one place and are unwilling to move their corporate card programme to get it.

Verdict. A sensible, well-positioned alternative for teams whose existing cards are non-negotiable, but young enough to pilot on one entity first.

Worth a look specifically because it does not make you change corporate cards to fix expenses.

Pricing
Custom plans priced on usage rather than per seat, quoted after contact. No public price list, no free tier and no published starting price. Finofo does not issue cards, so there is no interchange-subsidised free plan.
