About BILL
BILL is a US financial operations platform covering accounts payable and receivable, and spend and expense management through its Divvy business. It captures and codes bills, routes them for approval by policy, pays suppliers by ACH, cheque, card or international transfer, sends invoices, and offers company cards, budgets, reimbursements and credit lines subject to approval.
Two-way sync is listed for QuickBooks, NetSuite and Sage Intacct, with Xero, Microsoft Dynamics and Acumatica also integrated. Its BILL AI agents, launched from October 2025, collect and validate W-9s and reconcile receipts, and in February 2026 BILL added an Invoice Coding Agent for complex multi-line invoices, with a Smart Response Agent in beta for supplier queries. BILL says nearly half a million businesses and more than 9,500 accounting firms use it, and that over 100,000 customers use its agents. The Accountant Partner Programme provides an accountant console for managing many clients. In 2026 the company announced it would cut up to 30 percent of its workforce as it restructures around AI.
It is positioned at US small and mid-sized businesses and the accounting firms that run bill pay for them.

Our in-depth review
Client bill pay is one of the most common outsourced services a US firm offers, and BILL has long been the default platform for it. The question now is whether its newer AI agents remove enough manual coding to justify per-user pricing across a client book.
What it does well. Scale and network. With nearly half a million businesses and millions of network members, many suppliers already accept BILL payments, which cuts onboarding friction. The accountant console lets a firm run many clients from one login, and two-way sync with QuickBooks, NetSuite and Sage Intacct is mature. The Invoice Coding Agent targets the most tedious part of AP, multi-line coding, and W-9 collection is a genuine time saver at year end. Spend and Expense is listed at no charge, which makes cards and reimbursements an easy add-on.
Where it falls short. It is a US product: payment rails, W-9 handling and tax features are American, so it offers little for UK clients even though Xero is supported. AP and AR pricing is per user, from $49 a month on Essentials to $89 on Corporate, so firms with several approvers per client pay quickly. Accuracy figures for the coding agent, such as the 89 percent cut in coding steps, are the company's own. The announced workforce reduction of up to 30 percent raises fair questions about support quality over the next year, and the Smart Response Agent is still in beta.
Best for. US accounting firms offering client bill pay and AR, and US small and mid-sized businesses on QuickBooks, NetSuite or Sage Intacct that want AP, AR and cards in one place.
Verdict. Still the safe US default for client bill pay, with AI agents that are starting to earn their keep. Firms should test the Invoice Coding Agent on their messiest client for a month, track how many lines still need fixing, and price users per client before moving a whole book. UK practices should look elsewhere in this directory for sterling AP tools.
