About Crimson Tree Software

Crimson Tree Software is a partnership tax platform for large and complex US partnerships. Its product, TIERS, runs federal, state and international allocations from trial balance through to K-1, K-3, footnote and Form 1065 output, pairing a deterministic calculation engine with AI-augmented document ingestion and an AI operator that composes workflows and explains results.

The company says it has built partnership tax infrastructure since 2001, that the engines it built sit behind the firewalls of Big Four and Next Ten accounting firms, and that more than $2 billion in recurring annual professional fees is processed through systems it has built. Those figures are the company's own. The AI layer is supplied by Second Wind Foundry, an AI orchestration platform for regulated industries. On 22 September 2026 Crimson Tree and Filed launched the not-for-profit Open Tax Technology Alliance, releasing a free open source Form 1040 calculation engine and the Open Tax Document YAML standard for digital partnership returns.

It is positioned for elite tax teams inside large firms, and for private equity, hedge fund, family office and real estate clients with tiered structures that off-the-shelf software struggles with. The company lists offices in Washington DC, Boston and Dallas. Pricing is not published.

Our in-depth review

Crimson Tree Software is an unusual entry in the AI tax category, because the AI is deliberately the smaller half of the product. The engineering bet is that partnership allocations should be computed deterministically and that AI should handle ingestion, orchestration and explanation around them.

What it does well. The split between a hardened calculation engine and an AI layer is the right architecture for Subchapter K work, where the same inputs must produce the same answer every time and a reviewer has to be able to defend it. Traceability is treated as a first-order feature rather than a compliance afterthought, with any figure openable back to its source document and allocation trail. The company's depth here is real: it has been building partnership tax systems since 2001, and its claim that Big Four and Next Ten firms run on engines it built is consistent with its published client references.

Where it falls short. Almost every headline figure is the vendor's own, including the $2 billion in recurring fees and the Big Four pedigree, and none is independently verified. Pricing is not published at all, so buyers cannot size a deal without a briefing call. The AI operator is newer than the calculation engine and its quality is untested in public.

Best for. Large firms and fund administrators handling tiered partnership structures where allocation complexity, not volume, is the constraint.

Verdict. A credible specialist for hard partnership work, but expect an enterprise sales process and take the marketing numbers on trust.
