About Truss
Truss is an AI-native tax workflow platform for US tax and accounting firms. It runs the full engagement in one system: clients upload documents through zero-login links against AI-generated checklists, files are converted to PDF, renamed and filed automatically, workpapers are prepared, and finished returns are delivered from the same place.
Its assistant, Max AI, answers tax research questions, analyses returns, searches project files and connected email, and drafts client messages, while an optional AI Prep service returns review-ready returns prepared on demand. The platform is SOC 2 compliant with AES-256 encryption, does not train AI models on client data, aligns with major tax software including CCH Axcess, UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSeries and Drake, and was selected for the 2026 AICPA and CPA.com Startup Accelerator.
Truss is positioned for solo practitioners and small to mid-sized firms that want intake, documents and prep consolidated without an enterprise suite.

Our in-depth review
Truss pitches itself as the whole tax workflow in one place, an ambitious claim in a market where firms typically stitch together a portal, a document manager and their tax software.
What it does well. The client experience is the standout: zero-login upload links and AI checklists remove the portal friction that causes most document-chasing pain, and automatic renaming and filing is the sort of unglamorous automation firms actually feel. Max AI having access to project files, returns and connected email makes its drafting more useful than a generic chatbot, and alignment with CCH Axcess, UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSeries and Drake covers the software most firms run. Selection for the 2026 AICPA and CPA.com Startup Accelerator is a useful external endorsement.
Where it falls short. At roughly $3,000 a year for a sole practitioner it is a real budget line, and the platform is young, so firms with entrenched workflows should expect change management. The AI Prep service outsources sensitive work, and quality on complex returns is the vendor's claim to verify.
Best for. Solo and small US tax firms drowning in document chasing that want one system from intake to delivery.
Verdict. One of the more complete AI tax workflow bets for small firms, priced to demand a proper trial.
