About Sovos

Sovos is a tax compliance platform covering indirect tax determination, e-invoicing, information reporting and identity and trust. The company says its Compliance Cloud processes more than 16 billion transactions a year across almost 200 countries, a figure Sovos states itself.

On 15 September 2026 Sovos announced the acquisition of Blue dot, an AI VAT intelligence and recovery platform headquartered in Tel Aviv. Blue dot's stack includes more than 150 AI models, a real-time orchestration engine, a transaction knowledge graph and agentic capabilities for automating document ingestion, reconciliation and compliance operations. Sovos intends to embed Blue dot's AI into its compliance transaction flow, with the technology reconciling structured B2B invoices, and Blue dot's data science and engineering teams joining Sovos. This follows Sovos Intelligence, the AI compliance intelligence layer the company launched under its Sovi AI branding.

It is positioned at large and multinational organisations with continuous transaction control obligations, and at the tax teams and advisers who have to keep those filings defensible across many jurisdictions at once.

Our in-depth review

Sovos is compliance infrastructure rather than a productivity tool, and the Blue dot acquisition is the clearest signal yet that the indirect tax incumbents intend to buy their AI rather than build it.

What it does well. The jurisdictional coverage is the moat, and no amount of clever modelling substitutes for having the filing rules for almost 200 countries already encoded and maintained. Blue dot brings genuine depth in VAT recovery, an area where the money left on the table is real and the manual work is brutal, and a transaction knowledge graph is a more defensible architecture for compliance than a language model answering from documents. Keeping Blue dot's data science team rather than just the code suggests Sovos intends to develop it rather than shelve it.

Where it falls short. The 150-model count and the 16 billion transaction figure are both the vendors' own, and neither tells a buyer anything about accuracy on their own filings. The acquisition was announced on 15 September 2026, so the integration into the Sovos transaction flow is stated intent rather than shipped capability, and post-acquisition integrations in this market have a poor track record for speed. There is no published pricing, third-party estimates span an enormous range, and implementation routinely costs as much again as the first year of licence. Nothing here is accessible to a small or mid-sized practice.

Best for. Multinational groups with continuous transaction control and e-invoicing obligations, and the in-house indirect tax teams supporting them.

Verdict. The right platform if global indirect tax compliance is genuinely your problem, and an expensive irrelevance if it is not.

Serious global indirect tax infrastructure buying its AI rather than building it, at enterprise cost.

Pricing
No published price list. Quote-based and modular, varying by use case, headcount and the number of compliance workstreams. Third-party trackers put most buyers in a wide band from roughly $15,000 to over $250,000 a year, with implementation charged separately and often adding a substantial share of first-year cost.
