This is The AI Ledger Weekly: what actually changed in AI accounting software this week, checked against primary sources before it reaches you. Reading time: 3 minutes.
This was a quiet week. Only two stories survived checking against primary sources with an original announcement inside the last seven days, so this edition is short. Several items circulating in the trade press this week were older than they looked, and we have left them out.
This week at a glance
- Accrual launched its Arc agent platform with 20 agents at launch, available now to existing customers.
- Financial Cents added 3 AI file agents for client uploads, free on all plans.
The big story: Accrual puts a review step in front of its agents
Agent platforms for accounting firms have so far competed on how much they can do unattended. Accrual's Arc, launched on 24 September 2026, competes on a different axis: how visibly the work is checked.
Arc ships with 20 pre-built agents, and Accrual says it will add more weekly. Firms can build their own agents and schedule recurring tasks across their existing systems. According to CPA Practice Advisor, the workflow asks the practitioner to approve a proposed plan before Arc executes, then review the finished deliverable alongside a record of the sources, tools and actions used.
Arc is available now to Accrual customers. No pricing was disclosed, and the 20-agent count and the weekly cadence are vendor statements, not measured results. Our directory carries Accrual at an editor score of 4.2 out of 5, and its review describes the independent evidence as thin.
What it means for your practice. Do not judge Arc on the agent count. Pick one repeatable task, run it through Arc and through your current process on the same ten files, and time the review step as well as the preparation. If approving the plan and checking the action log takes longer than doing the work, the saving is imaginary. Also ask Accrual what the action log retains, and for how long, before client data goes near it.
Also this week
Financial Cents added three narrow AI agents for client documents. On 25 September 2026 it released File Renaming, File Validator and File Routing, which rename uploads to a firm's convention, check files against the original request and sort them into folders. The company says they are free on all plans. Our editor score is 4.3. This is housekeeping, not judgement, so test it on one client folder first.
One to watch: Numeric's attempt to replace the ERP
On 22 September 2026, slightly outside this week's window, Numeric launched a Financial Data Platform positioned as a NetSuite replacement. It rolls out module by module, starting with close management, cash management and billing, and can keep posting to an existing ERP during transition. Pricing is custom and the target is enterprise. The claim of monthly closes in hours is Numeric's own. Watch for the first named customer that has moved its general ledger.
We now list more than 250 tools in the directory, and you can narrow them to your practice at the finder. The next edition lands Thursday evening.
