The big story: Paystand publishes the numbers its agents must hit
Agentic finance has been sold on adjectives for two years. The interesting part of Paystand's launch on 8 September is not the agents, it is that the company published the specific figures each one will be judged against.
Paystand made its Reporting Agent and Spend Agent generally available, with a Collections Agent in private beta and due later this quarter. The Spend Agent handles employee spend requests inside Slack and Microsoft Teams, applies purchasing policy, codes transactions and posts approved expenses to the ERP as native bills and expense reports rather than generic journal entries.
Then come the numbers. Paystand states the Spend Agent's performance measures include reducing month-end close time by more than 78% and out-of-policy spending by more than 5%, and that the Collections Agent is measured against reducing days sales outstanding by more than 62%. Read the wording carefully: these are targets the agents are measured against, not results anyone has observed. Paystand integrates natively with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics and Acumatica.
What it means for your practice. A published target is more useful than a vague claim, because you can hold a vendor to it. Ask for the baseline and the measurement window behind the 62% figure, and for a named reference customer who has run the Collections Agent through a full quarter. Do not treat the 78% close-time number as evidence of anything until the Collections Agent leaves beta and someone outside the company reports a result. Paystand carries a 4.3 rating in the directory.
Also this week
FinQuery bought Innervision from IRIS Software Group and established a UK operation. The Atlanta company announced on 8 September that it had acquired the lease accounting compliance platform, gaining Innervision's team, customers and FRS 102 and IFRS 16 expertise. Existing customers keep uninterrupted service and gain access to the wider platform over time. Financial terms were not disclosed. For UK practices with lease-heavy clients, this is the week's most consequential ownership change.
Dext disclosed adoption figures alongside a new chief revenue officer. Announcing Nicole Bello's appointment on 9 September, chief executive Sabby Gill said AI Assist has automated 83% of edits since launch and reached nearly 2,500 licences sold, and that Dext serves more than 12,000 firms and 700,000 businesses. Every figure is Dext's own and none is independently audited. Dext holds a 4.7 rating.
Fieldguide added Centri, its fourth named firm partnership since July. Centri Business Consulting said on 8 September it will use the platform to standardise risk advisory engagements and give clients visibility into their control environment. Grant Thornton Advisors signed in July and Aprio in August. A run of named firms inside ten weeks is a stronger signal than any single announcement. Fieldguide holds a 4.6 rating.
ADP named AWS its strategic cloud provider. The expanded partnership, announced on 8 September, builds ADP Assist agents on Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore to identify and correct payroll anomalies, answer questions and generate reports under human oversight. ADP's stated reach of more than 1.1 million clients across 140 countries is the company's own figure. Nothing changes for users this week, but the model layer under a large slice of payroll automation is now settled.
The gap between AI ambition and operational reality has not closed. A 1LoD report published on 9 September, commissioned by surveillance vendor Shield, found false positives are still the top-rated challenge for 52% of financial institutions, ahead of budget constraints at 41% and data quality at 37%, with little movement since 2024. It covers banking surveillance, not practice software, and the sponsor sells a remedy. Weigh it accordingly.
One to watch: an open benchmark for reconciliation evidence
Reconciliation vendors quote accuracy figures nobody outside the company can check. FinRCA-Bench, published on arXiv on 19 August 2026 by Pratik Ghawate, is an attempt at a fix: a deterministic synthetic benchmark of 2,250 accounts-payable-to-bank reconciliation cases across 14 operational tables, with root-cause labels hidden so evidence retrieval is scored separately from the answer. Its most uncomfortable result is that strict returned-evidence accuracy reached only 5.72%, meaning systems frequently produced the right conclusion without the records that justify it. That is the distance between a plausible reconciliation and an auditable one.
