About Veryfi

Veryfi is an AI document extraction platform that reads receipts, invoices, cheques, W-2s, bank statements and other financial documents field by field and returns structured data through an API. It also offers fraud detection that checks a document's pixels, arithmetic and whether it has been seen before, plus Lens capture SDKs for mobile and browser with on-device OCR.

The vendor's site says more than 1,000 organisations use it and shows Navan, Rippling, Square, Volvo, Abbott and PepsiCo as customers powered by its OCR API. It lists SOC 2 Type II, CCPA, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, and offers cloud, hybrid or on-premise deployment. Data hosting region is not stated on the pages we read, and the vendor says it does not sell or share your data without addressing model training.

Veryfi is positioned for software builders, fintechs and finance teams that need extraction as a service rather than a finished bookkeeping product. Accounting practices can use it through its workflow tools and integrations, but it is closer to a component than a client-facing app. Prices are published in US dollars.

Our in-depth review

Veryfi is a document extraction engine first and an accounting product second. It turns receipts, invoices, cheques and statements into structured data through an API, with SDKs for capture on phones and browsers. That makes it more of a building block than a drop-in tool for a small practice. Pricing is in US dollars and the platform is US-led, with GDPR also listed.

What it does well. Extraction covers a wide range of document types, and the fraud layer, which checks pixels, arithmetic and duplicate submission, is something many receipt tools lack. SOC 2 Type II is listed by the vendor. There is a free plan for up to 100 documents a month and a 14-day trial, so you can test accuracy on your own paperwork without a commitment. Named customers include Navan, Rippling and Square.

Where it falls short. The Starter plan carries a $500 a month minimum, which is steep for a small practice, and the Growth plan is quote only. Per-document rates stack on top, so costs scale with volume. Integrations with Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and NetSuite are not named on the pages we read, so you may need to build or buy the last mile. Data hosting region and whether customer data trains models are not stated on the pages we read.

Best for. Fintechs, expense and AP software teams, and larger finance teams with developers who want accurate extraction and fraud checks embedded in their own workflow. Small practices that just want receipts in the ledger will usually be better served by Dext or AutoEntry in this directory.

Verdict. Test it with the free plan on a messy batch of real documents, including crumpled receipts and multi-page invoices, and measure field accuracy and the fraud flags. Then ask what integration work you would own, where data is stored and how long documents are retained. If you have developers, it is a strong engine; if you do not, a packaged product is likely the safer buy.
