About NetSuite

NetSuite is Oracle's cloud ERP suite. It brings the general ledger, payables, receivables, fixed assets, revenue recognition and multi-entity consolidation into one system. It is aimed at mid-market and larger businesses rather than at accounting practices, although many firms and outsourced finance teams support clients who run on it.

Release 2026.2 added AI to the close. Oracle says a transaction matching assistant proposes the single most likely general ledger match when several candidates remain, gives its rationale and leaves the decision to a person, while a suggestions workspace brings back ambiguous matches the old rules discarded. Intelligent Flux Analysis drafts explanations of why balances moved between periods, and Intelligent Close Manager ranks close tasks in a priority queue. The same release began rolling out NetSuite Next and the Ask Oracle assistant, starting in the US and Canada. For UK entities, Oracle's help documents VAT100 filing to HMRC under Making Tax Digital via the International Tax Reports SuiteApp.

NetSuite is sold as an annual licence plus implementation, through Oracle or a partner. It suits groups that have outgrown Xero, QuickBooks or Sage and need one ledger across entities, and the practices that serve them.

The AI Ledger

Our in-depth review

NetSuite is not an AI add-on for a practice. It is the ledger itself for a large number of mid-market businesses, and the real question in 2026 is whether its own AI reduces the need for the close tools that grew up around it.

What it does well. Release 2026.2 puts AI where NetSuite teams lose time. Oracle says the matching assistant picks one likely match from ambiguous candidates and explains why, with a person approving it, and the suggestions workspace resurfaces matches the old rules discarded. Intelligent Flux Analysis drafts the variance commentary controllers write every month, and Intelligent Close Manager orders close tasks by value, due date and dependency. Because all of this sits inside the ERP, there is no extra data feed to secure. Multi-entity consolidation is native, and UK entities can file VAT under Making Tax Digital through the International Tax Reports SuiteApp.

Where it falls short. Cost and effort. There is no public price list; NetSuite is quoted by modules and users plus implementation, and the total sits far above a Xero or QuickBooks stack. Some AI features depend on enabled modules, Narrative Insights in the case of flux analysis, and NetSuite Next started in North America, so UK customers should confirm what is actually live in their account. A community post from Oracle users says the MTD connection cannot be tested in a sandbox, so plan for first filings in production. Generated explanations still need checking against the underlying ledger activity.

Best for. Groups with several entities, currencies or complex revenue recognition that need one ledger, and the outsourced finance teams supporting them. Teams wanting deeper reconciliation and close analytics on top of NetSuite should still compare Numeric or FloQast, and BlackLine for larger, control-heavy closes.

Verdict. The 2026 AI features make NetSuite's own close noticeably better, but they are a reason to stay on NetSuite, not a reason to move to it. In any evaluation, ask the partner to run matching and flux analysis on your own data, confirm UK availability of each feature, and get the full multi-year cost including implementation and renewals in writing.

A heavyweight ERP whose 2026 AI matching, flux and close features improve month-end, but only worth the cost for groups that genuinely need full ERP.
