Deel is a global hiring and payroll platform that lets a UK business pay overseas contractors from $49 a month each, or employ staff abroad through its employer of record service from $599 a month per employee, without setting up a local company. This spotlight covers every published price, what accountants need to know about how Deel costs reach the ledger, where it falls short, and which rivals are cheaper. Prices were read on Deel's pricing page on 27 October 2026.

TL;DR:

  • Deel's main prices: contractors from $49 a month each, contractor of record from $325, employer of record (EOR) from $599 per employee, global payroll from $29 per employee, and US PEO from $125.
  • Add-ons include benefits administration ($10 per employee), Payroll Connect for other payroll providers ($5), treasury services ($10) and expense management (from $8).
  • Deel says it covers more than 150 countries, serves over 40,000 customers and has processed more than $20 billion in payroll.
  • For three overseas contractors, Deel costs $147 a month; Remote and Oyster list contractor plans from $29, which would be $87.
  • For EOR, Deel and Remote both start at $599 per employee and Oyster at $699, so Deel is level on price and wins on country coverage and integrations.
  • Deel scores 4.4 out of 5 in our directory; for UK-only payroll, a domestic tool such as BrightPay is usually cheaper.

What is Deel and who is it for?

Deel is one platform for hiring, paying and managing people in other countries. A business can pay independent contractors with compliant local contracts, employ staff in a country where it has no company by using Deel as the employer of record, or run payroll for its own entities. Deel says it works in more than 150 countries, pays in over 150 currencies, and has more than 40,000 customers.

It suits three kinds of business best:

  • UK companies starting to hire abroad, typically a first developer in Portugal or a sales lead in the US, who do not want to set up a local company yet.
  • Businesses with a growing bench of overseas contractors who want contracts, invoices and payments in one place instead of bank transfers and spreadsheets.
  • The accountants advising them, who need the costs to arrive in the ledger in a form they can code and reconcile.

Our Deel listing shows the editor score and what we checked.

How much does Deel cost in 2026?

Deel publishes its main prices on its pricing page, in US dollars. These are starting prices, so quotes for specific countries can be higher.

ProductFrom (per month)What it covers
Contractors$49 per contractorCompliant contracts, invoicing and multi-currency payments; you classify the worker
Contractor of record$325 per contractorDeel takes on the classification liability for the contractor
Employer of record (EOR)$599 per employeeDeel legally employs your staff abroad and runs their local payroll and benefits
Global payroll$29 per employeePayroll for your own entities in several countries
US PEO$125 per employeeCo-employment for US staff
Benefits administration$10 per employeeBenefits managed alongside Deel payroll
Payroll Connect$5 per employeeOne view across other in-country payroll providers
Treasury services$10 per employeeDeel funds and pays out payroll
Expense managementFrom $8 per employeeEmployee expenses
HiringFrom $14 per workerJob posting, screening and candidate management

Deel's pricing page also shows HR and workforce management plans from $5 per employee a month, and at the time of writing it was advertising three months free on its US PEO.

The important point is that the per-head price is only part of the cost. EOR quotes include the employee's salary, employer social charges and any benefits in that country, and currency conversion applies when you pay in pounds. Ask for a full country quote before comparing.

Three worked examples for UK businesses

These use Deel's published starting prices and leave out salaries, employer taxes and exchange-rate costs.

1. A UK agency paying three overseas contractors. Three contractors at $49 each is $147 a month, or $1,764 a year. Remote and Oyster both list contractor plans from $29, which would be $87 a month, or $1,044 a year. If those contractors are genuinely independent and paid against invoices, a written contract and a bank transfer may be enough, as our guide to paying overseas contractors from the UK explains.

2. A UK software company employing two people in Portugal. Two EOR employees at $599 is $1,198 a month, or $14,376 a year, on top of their salaries and Portuguese employer costs. Remote also starts at $599 and Oyster at $699, so the same two people on Oyster would cost $1,398 a month in fees.

3. A growing team with five contractors and one EOR employee. Five contractors at $49 plus one EOR employee at $599 comes to $844 a month, or $10,128 a year. The advantage of Deel here is one system for both groups, with one set of reports for the accountant.

A common rule of thumb is that once a business has more than about ten employees in one country, setting up its own local company starts to cost less than paying an EOR fee for each person. Below that, EOR is usually simpler and cheaper.

Contractor, contractor of record or employer of record: which do you need?

The choice decides the price, so it is worth getting right.

  • Contractors ($49): use when the worker is genuinely self-employed. They control how and when they work, use their own equipment and invoice you. You carry the classification risk.
  • Contractor of record ($325): use when you want to keep a contractor arrangement but pass the misclassification risk to Deel. Worth considering for long-running, full-time contractors.
  • Employer of record ($599): use when the person is really an employee: fixed hours, your equipment, your management, no other clients. Deel employs them under local law and runs payroll, taxes and benefits.

For UK businesses, the tax position of non-UK resident workers is set out in HMRC guidance, and our overseas contractors guide covers IR35, PAYE and the VAT reverse charge in detail.

What accountants need to know about Deel

Deel matters to a practice when a client starts paying people abroad, because the practice has to account for the result.

  • Integrations. Deel connects to Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite and Sage, so payroll and contractor costs can post to the ledger instead of arriving as one invoice.
  • Coding EOR invoices. A single EOR invoice can combine salary, employer social charges, benefits, Deel's fee and any foreign exchange. Agree a chart of accounts mapping with the client before the first month, so wages, fees and FX are not lumped together.
  • Deposits and terms. Check whether the client has paid a deposit or committed to a minimum term, because both affect the balance sheet and the cost of leaving.
  • Currency. Deel prices in dollars and pays in local currencies. Decide whether exchange differences sit in cost of sales or overheads, and stay consistent.
  • Contractor VAT. Services bought from overseas business suppliers are usually subject to the reverse charge, which the client accounts for in its own VAT return.

Does Deel run UK payroll?

Yes. As well as EOR, Deel sells Deel Local Payroll for UK employers. Deel says it handles PAYE, National Insurance, Real Time Information submissions and pension auto-enrolment. If a client only employs people in the UK, compare it with a domestic payroll tool on price, and check the product on HMRC's list of recognised payroll software before you switch. HMRC updates that list several times a year.

Where Deel falls short

  • Expensive for UK-only staff. At $599 a month per EOR employee, a UK business employing people locally will always pay less with domestic payroll.
  • Dollar pricing. UK clients pay in pounds, so the real cost moves with the exchange rate.
  • Starting prices only. The published figures are minimums, so get a country-specific quote.
  • AI claims are broad. Deel promotes AI for routine approvals across hiring, payroll and IT, but the site gives few specifics, so treat it as a convenience rather than a reason to buy.
  • Cheaper contractor plans exist. For contractor payments alone, Remote and Oyster list lower starting prices.

Deel vs Remote, Oyster and domestic payroll

OptionContractors (from, per month)EOR (from, per employee per month)Best for

Remote$29$599Lower-cost contractor payments
Oyster$29$699Teams comparing EOR quotes across providers
Domestic payroll (for example BrightPay)Not applicableNot applicableUK-only employers

Remote and Oyster figures come from their pricing pages as checked on 24 October 2026, in our overseas contractors guide. For US-only small employers, Gusto scores 4.6 in our directory and is simpler than Deel.

How to try Deel

Book a demo through Deel's site and ask for a quote for the specific countries you hire in. You can see Deel's current pricing through our link (affiliate link) ↗. The AI Ledger earns a commission if you sign up through a link marked affiliate. It never changes an editor score.

Before signing:

  1. Get a full monthly cost per country, including employer taxes and benefits, not just the platform fee.
  2. Ask about deposits, minimum terms and notice periods.
  3. Ask your accountant to map how Deel invoices will post into Xero or QuickBooks.
  4. Compare the contractor price with Remote and Oyster if contractors are most of your team.

Our verdict

Deel is the default choice for UK businesses hiring in several countries: one system for contractors, contractor of record and EOR, published prices, and proper integrations with the ledgers accountants use. That is why it scores 4.4 in our directory.

It is not the cheapest option for every case. If you only pay a few contractors, Remote or Oyster can cost less; if all your staff are in the UK, domestic payroll will. Choose Deel when you need breadth across countries and worker types, and your accountant wants the costs to arrive in a form they can reconcile. When you are ready, compare Deel's plans (affiliate link) ↗.
