About Rippling
Rippling is a workforce platform that combines payroll with HR, IT and finance tools. Its payroll page promises to cut hours of manual work with AI, which Rippling says can add one-off bonuses, compare payroll costs across entities, answer employees' questions about pay changes and explain what changed between pay runs.
On the payroll page, Rippling describes US tax filing with federal, state and local agencies and links to a hiring guide and a Global Payroll product for the UK and other countries. It lists integrations with QuickBooks, Xero and NetSuite, and says it offers more than 650 integrations in total. Named customers on the page include Barry's, Aptera, Curve Dental and The Portland Clinic.
Pricing is not shown on the page and sits behind a separate pricing page and a sales conversation. Rippling is a general business platform rather than an accountant-only product, so it suits practices advising growing clients who want payroll, HR and device management under one login, and firms that want a client's payroll to flow into QuickBooks or Xero.

Our in-depth review
Rippling is not an accounting tool at heart. It is an employee-data platform where payroll is one module among many, and its AI is aimed at the questions payroll staff and employees ask every pay cycle: why did this cheque change, what do entities cost, can someone add this bonus.
What it does well. The explanation features are the most useful part. Being able to see what changed between pay runs, and to let employees ask about their own pay changes, removes a steady stream of queries from the person running payroll. Cost comparison across entities helps accountants advising groups. The vendor lists QuickBooks, Xero and NetSuite integrations, which matters for getting payroll journals into the ledger without re-keying, and names real customers on the page. Having payroll, benefits and device management on one employee record also removes duplicate data entry, which is where many payroll mistakes begin.
Where it falls short. Pricing is not published on the payroll page, so you cannot compare it with Gusto or Paychex WISE without a quote. Rippling's value comes from adopting several modules, which creates lock-in: moving payroll out later means moving the employee record too. The AI claims are the vendor's own, and the page did not state security certifications, so ask for the trust documentation before putting client data in. Implementation is heavier than a pure payroll tool, so expect onboarding calls and data migration, and check what is included in each module rather than assuming the AI features come with every plan.
Best for. US practices whose growing clients want payroll, HR and IT in one system. The payroll page is written around US tax filing; Rippling also links to a Global Payroll product, but UK payroll availability was not confirmed on the pages we read, so UK firms should check first.
Verdict. A strong platform choice for clients who will use more than payroll, with genuinely useful explanation features. Test the pay-run comparison on a real month of data, confirm the ledger sync, and get a written quote before recommending it. A rival to consider from the directory is Paychex WISE, which is built for the same US payroll jobs.
