About Paylocity
Paylocity is a NASDAQ-listed payroll and human capital management platform for US employers, covering payroll, benefits, time, talent and recruiting in one system. It reported total revenue of $1.771 billion for its fiscal year to 30 June 2026. On 21 July 2026 it launched Ignite AI, a set of agents built into existing workflows plus an Ignite AI Hub where leaders can switch agents on or off and track their use.
The Payroll Analysis Agent compares each payroll with the organisation's own past runs and explains in plain language what changed. The Data Inspection Agent runs more than 100 checks on employee records, the company says, flagging items such as invalid direct deposit accounts or missing local tax details. Paylocity bought Grayscale Labs (AI recruiting) in April 2026 and Aidora (AI leave compliance) in July 2026. It lists more than 350 ready-made integrations, including QuickBooks, Oracle NetSuite, Sage, Xero and Concur, with customisable general ledger mapping.
It is positioned for US mid-market employers and the finance teams, accountants and controllers who support them. It does not run UK payroll.

Our in-depth review
For a US practice advising mid-market clients, Paylocity is usually the payroll system the client already runs, and the questions are whether its data reaches the books cleanly and whether the new AI cuts review time before each run. On both it is a credible, mature platform, though not one a practice buys for itself.
What it does well. Payroll, time, benefits and talent share one employee record, so the general ledger export draws on consistent data. The integration catalogue is large, and the Sage Intacct connector maps payroll codes to GL accounts and carries wages, taxes and benefits across. The Ignite AI agents launched in July 2026 target real pain: one flags variances against each company's own payroll history, the other catches missing or doubtful employee data before it breaks a run. They are review aids rather than autopilots, which is the right design for payroll.
Where it falls short. There is no public price list. Third-party estimates range from about $20 to $40 per employee per month depending on modules, with a one-year minimum term and implementation fees reported, and the Ignite AI launch said nothing about price or packaging. Get every module, connector and agent priced in writing. The accuracy claims for the agents come from Paylocity itself, with no independent evidence yet. It is US-only, so irrelevant for UK clients, and employers under about 50 staff will usually find Gusto or Warp lighter and cheaper; isolved and Paychex WISE are the closer mid-market comparisons.
Best for. US employers with roughly 50 to several thousand staff, and the accountants and controllers who reconcile their payroll into QuickBooks, NetSuite or Sage Intacct. In a demo, push a real payroll through the ledger mapping, check how department and location splits land, and ask to see the anomaly agent catch a deliberately planted error.
Verdict. A mature mid-market platform whose new agents add useful pre-run checks, strong for client employers, but quote-only pricing and a US-only scope limit its relevance to practices.
