About Mayday
Mayday is a month-end platform for finance teams working in Xero, QuickBooks Online or Intuit Enterprise Suite. It combines close coordination, with task tracking, balance sheet reconciliations and close progress, with automation for intercompany reconciliations, recharges, prepayments, deferred revenue, accruals and adjusting journals.
Its AI is called AIR. Mayday says AIR applies accounting principles and the history of each file to suggest actions such as matching transactions or applying deferred revenue treatment, and a person reviews and approves every suggestion. A second feature, Flux, drafts commentary explaining movements in the P&L, again for approval before use.
Mayday's site says data is hosted on AWS in the London region, encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2 or above in transit, and that sign-in uses Xero or Intuit two-factor authentication. It lists a 30-day free trial with no card required and says it is trusted by 12,000 organisations, naming HFL Education and RSGx in case studies. It is aimed at accountants and in-house finance teams handling recurring month-end work.
Key Features
- AIR suggests matches, accruals, prepayments and deferred revenue treatment
- Flux drafts P&L variance commentary for review
- Intercompany reconciliations and recharges
- Close task management and balance sheet reconciliations
Our in-depth review
Month-end is where small errors pile up: a missed prepayment release, an intercompany balance that will not agree, a P&L that nobody has explained. Mayday targets that work for teams living in Xero or QuickBooks Online, and its AI is deliberately kept to suggestions that a person approves.
What it does well. The scope is practical. Prepayments, accruals, deferred revenue and intercompany recharges are the recurring journals that eat close time, and AIR proposes them from the file's own history rather than from generic rules. Flux drafts variance commentary that a reviewer can edit, which is useful when clients expect an explanation, not just a number. A 30-day trial without a card lets you test it on a real client file, and the vendor lists UK hosting on AWS London with encryption in transit and at rest.
Where it falls short. Pricing is published as a structure, based on entity count, product mix and billing frequency, but the pages we read show no actual figures, so budget by asking for a quote and compare it with FloQast or Numeric on the same basis. Support is for Xero, QuickBooks Online and Intuit Enterprise Suite; Sage was not mentioned on the pages we read. A SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certificate was also not stated on those pages, so ask for one if your clients require it. Setup effort is also worth testing: connection to the ledger is quick, but the value depends on how well the opening balances and historic journals are mapped, and AIR learns from the file, so a messy file gives weaker suggestions in the first months.
Best for. Accounting firms and finance teams running several Xero or QuickBooks Online entities, particularly with intercompany transactions. The vendor describes UK data storage and processing, and the pages we read did not state US availability, so US firms should confirm before a trial. It also suits in-house controllers who want a checklist with sign-off trail rather than a spreadsheet.
Verdict. A focused close tool that does recurring journals and commentary well with human approval built in. Run the trial on your messiest multi-entity client, check how often AIR's suggestions are accepted unchanged, and get the entity-based quote before committing. Lock-in is modest because the ledger stays in Xero or QuickBooks.
