About Intuit Accountant Suite

Intuit Accountant Suite is Intuit's practice platform for accounting firms and the replacement for QuickBooks Online Accountant, which Intuit is discontinuing on 31 December 2026. It gives firms one sign-in across every client's QuickBooks Online file, client segments by industry, region or office, permissions by office or service line, dashboards for each team member, and a unified client inbox with file sharing, an audit log and email or SMS reminders.

The AI layer is Intuit Intelligence. Its chat assistant, still in beta, answers questions about the firm's or a client's books, with monthly limits of 200 questions on the free Core tier and 1,000 on the paid Accelerate tier, and automations can run reconciliation, categorisation and month-end prep across client files. Firms also get an AI summary of client issues at sign-in and cross-client analysis in beta. Accelerate adds user groups and onboarding workflows; it and the Books Close add-on are free in beta until 19 January 2027, with a 50% discount for the first 12 months after that. In the US it links with ProConnect Tax; the UK version, launched in February 2026, links with Intuit ProTax and is currently free to UK firms.

It is aimed at firms standardised on QuickBooks Online that want practice management, client communication and AI analysis on the same platform as the ledger.

Our in-depth review

For any firm with a QuickBooks Online client base, this is not optional reading: QuickBooks Online Accountant is being discontinued at the end of 2026, and Accountant Suite is where those firms land. The real question is whether to rely on it as the practice platform or keep Karbon, Financial Cents or another system alongside it.

What it does well. Because it sits on the ledger, it can surface anomalies, bookkeeping problems and client issues without a sync, which separate practice tools cannot match. The Core tier is free, and switching a QuickBooks Online Accountant account is a settings change rather than a migration. Client segments, office-level permissions and per-person dashboards fix long-standing complaints about running a large book of QuickBooks clients. Intuit Intelligence automations for reconciliation, categorisation and month-end prep across files are the part most worth testing.

Where it falls short. Much of the headline AI is still beta, including the chat, cross-client analysis and Books Close, and question limits apply. The US page gives no base price for Accelerate or Books Close, and Intuit's UK release says future pricing will be set by the market, so firms cannot yet budget with confidence. It only covers QuickBooks clients, so a mixed Xero, Sage and QuickBooks practice still needs a ledger-neutral tool. Several UK features, such as multiple client tabs and bulk team groups, were listed as coming soon at launch, and ProConnect Tax is a US product.

Best for. Firms of any size whose clients are mostly on QuickBooks Online, particularly those still on QuickBooks Online Accountant. Move a group of clients across during the free period, test segments and permissions, compare the unified inbox with your existing client portal, and see how far the chat and automations get on real month-end work before the betas end. Ask Intuit for Accelerate pricing in writing. Xero-led practices should look at Xero's own tools instead.

Verdict. The natural and currently free home for QuickBooks-centred practices, with useful ledger-aware AI, but key features are in beta and paid pricing remains unclear.
