About HiBob

HiBob, whose product is called Bob, is an HR platform with payroll offered in the UK and US. Bob AI is embedded across the platform. HiBob says it supports natural-language questions about the workforce, drafts reviews and job descriptions, and gives employees self-service guidance. An MCP connector, described as live people context for AI, links Bob to external AI tools.

The site has separate pages for UK payroll, described as HMRC compliant, and US payroll covering all 50 states. Listed integrations include Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, Okta, NetSuite, ADP and DATEV. Footer badges show GDPR, AICPA SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA.

HiBob claims more than 5,500 companies and over 1.2 million people use Bob, naming Fiverr, ElevenLabs and Fulham FC as customers. A news link on the site refers to a Salesforce investment, though the page text did not state the amount. Demos are offered rather than a free trial, and pricing is not shown on the home page. It is positioned for mid-sized, fast-growing employers.

Our in-depth review

HiBob is an HR platform first, and the accounting angle is payroll and people data that feeds finance. For accountants advising scaling employers, the question is whether Bob's AI and payroll reduce the manual work around headcount, reviews and pay.

What it does well. The natural-language workforce questions are the practical feature: asking Bob about headcount or team makeup is quicker than building a report. The MCP connector is a forward-looking touch for firms wiring AI tools to people data. Security is stated plainly, with GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA badges, and it offers payroll pages for both the UK and the US, which suits clients with staff in each. Its people-data model can also support headcount reporting that finance teams otherwise rebuild in spreadsheets each month.

Where it falls short. The home page names no Xero, QuickBooks or Sage integration, so ledger sync needs checking, and pricing is not published, with demos in place of a trial. Most of the AI described is HR-oriented, such as drafting reviews and job descriptions, rather than payroll accuracy, so test what it actually does on a pay run. Adopting a full HR suite creates lock-in, and the vendor's usage figures are its own claims. Setup is a project rather than a sign-up: expect implementation time, configuration of approval flows and a migration of employee records, so budget for that in the first quarter.

Best for. Fast-growing employers with distributed teams, advised by practices that cover both the UK and the US. Payroll in each market has a dedicated page, and a US firm should confirm state coverage against the clients in question. It is a weaker fit for sole traders or very small employers who only need a payslip run, where a lighter payroll tool will cost less and take minutes to set up.

Verdict. A well-secured HR platform with useful AI for people questions, better for headcount-driven businesses than for bookkeeping-led work. Ask for a demo using real payroll data, confirm the accounting integration, and compare quotes with Employment Hero or Rippling. Treat the AI claims as the vendor's own until you have seen them work on your data.
