About Finta

Finta is accounting and tax software for US start-ups that combines automated bookkeeping, tax filing, reporting and planning in one place. Bookkeeping automatically categorises and reconciles transactions, matches transfers between accounts and lets users write their own categorisation rules, with smart suggestions for transactions it cannot place confidently. The tax side covers Form 1099s, Delaware franchise tax, federal and state income tax and R&D tax credit claims, with live chat to its experts.

Reporting includes dashboards and Slack alerts on cash, burn, runway and MRR, plus financial statements for fundraising and 409A valuations, and budgets, forecasts and budget-versus-actual comparisons built on the live books. Integrations listed include banks such as Chase, Mercury, SVB and Bank of America, cards from Brex, Ramp and American Express, Stripe and Paddle, Gusto and Rippling payroll, Carta and Pulley cap tables, Clerky and Slack. The company is backed by Y Combinator. Notably, the site itself describes these features as automation rather than AI.

A free Formation plan covers up to 500 transactions; paid plans run from $99 to $499 a month, with tax filings priced separately. It is aimed at founders of newly formed and funded US start-ups.

Our in-depth review

Finta is a founder's tool rather than an accountant's. Its job is to keep a young US start-up's books current, file the handful of federal, state and Delaware returns a C corporation needs, and produce the burn and runway numbers investors ask for, without the founder hiring a bookkeeper.

What it does well. Bundling bookkeeping and tax for the specific shape of a Delaware start-up removes a lot of small, easily missed obligations, such as franchise tax and 1099s. The integration list matches the real start-up stack, from Mercury and Brex to Stripe, Gusto, Carta and Clerky, so most data flows in without manual imports. The free Formation plan is generous for companies that have barely started trading, and the reporting, including Slack alerts on cash and runway, is the information a founder actually looks at. Pricing is published in full, which is refreshing.

Where it falls short. It is entirely American: US entities, US tax forms, US banks. A UK limited company cannot use it for Companies House accounts, corporation tax or VAT. Prices have risen: the Startup plan is now $99 a month and Growth $499, and federal filing at $500 plus $150 per state adds up quickly for multi-state companies. R&D credit help costs 10% of the credit. Despite the directory's focus, the site itself describes rules and automation rather than AI, and there is no accountant-facing workspace for managing many clients. Moving to a full ledger such as QuickBooks later means a migration.

Best for. Founders of newly incorporated or recently funded US start-ups, particularly Delaware C corporations, who want books, tax and investor reporting handled in one low-effort place. Accounting firms serving many start-ups will get more from a firm-facing tool such as Double or Finlens.

Verdict. A tidy, transparent all-in-one for US start-up founders, with nothing to offer UK practices or their clients. If you advise a US subsidiary, check how Finta's statements will hand over to your audit or consolidation process before the founders sign up.
