About Definite

Definite describes itself as an ontology layer for finance. It connects to a company's existing systems, maps their data into one connected model and uses that model to drive dashboards, chat, agents and workflows across four areas: close and reconciliations, FP&A and planning, billing and revenue, and tax and compliance. It does not replace the ERP or data warehouse, and it is read-only: connection setup rejects credentials that could write back to a source system.

The integrations page names NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Workday Financial Management, Oracle Fusion, SAP S/4HANA, Dynamics 365 Finance and BlackLine, plus Salesforce, Stripe, Snowflake, BigQuery, Power BI, Tableau, Anaplan, Rippling, ADP, Ramp, Brex, BILL, Coupa, Excel and Google Sheets. Models propose mappings, matches and explanations while deterministic rules handle calculations, thresholds and validations, and finance staff can turn a written procedure into a draft agent and add review steps. It can be hosted, deployed in the customer's cloud or VPC, on-premises or air-gapped. The company is backed by Y Combinator and raised a $10 million seed round led by Costanoa in August 2025.

Pricing is not published and demos are by request. It is aimed at mid-sized and large finance teams with several systems to reconcile.

The AI Ledger

Our in-depth review

Most finance AI fails on the plumbing before it gets to the clever part: the general ledger says one thing, billing says another, and the spreadsheets in between hold the truth. Definite's bet is that fixing the data model first is the real job, and that close, forecasting and agents become easier once every system speaks the same language.

What it does well. The read-only stance is a genuine strength, because it lets a finance team connect sensitive systems without any risk of an agent writing to the ledger. The split between AI-proposed mappings and deterministic rules for the actual calculations is the right design for numbers that must tie out. Integration coverage is broad at the enterprise end, from NetSuite and Sage Intacct to SAP, Workday and BlackLine, and the deployment options, including on-premises and air-gapped, will suit regulated businesses.

Where it falls short. The product has changed shape: earlier third-party profiles describe a general AI data platform with a lakehouse and dashboard builder, and the site now pitches a finance-specific ontology. That makes it hard to judge maturity, and I found no independent customer case studies. Pricing is not published, and implementation needs both finance and technical people, which points to a project rather than a quick win. QuickBooks and Xero are not on the integration list, so it is out of reach for most UK SME clients.

Best for. Mid-sized and larger finance teams running several systems, for example NetSuite or Sage Intacct alongside Stripe, Salesforce and a payroll provider, that want one reliable data layer before adding AI. A finance team already using BlackLine or FloQast could use it as the data foundation underneath rather than as a replacement.

Verdict. A thoughtful architecture with the right safety instincts, but a young product whose positioning is still settling. Ask for a scoped pilot on one reconciliation or one revenue report, check how much implementation time it takes, and see the mapping on your own chart of accounts before committing budget.

A sensible read-only data layer for multi-system finance teams, but young, unpriced publicly and with no QuickBooks or Xero connection.
