About Booke AI

Booke AI is an AI bookkeeper that works inside a client's existing QuickBooks Online or Xero file, using the bank feed already connected there. It categorises transactions using patterns learned for each client, matches them to invoices, bills and receipts, requests missing documents, and flags low-confidence items for a person to review. QuickBooks or Xero stays the system of record.

Around that core it offers reconciliation suggestions, an accounts payable workflow for bulk document import, inconsistency detection for month-end, a client query tool for asking clients about transactions, an email inbox that turns client emails into tasks, custom rules such as requiring receipts above a set amount, and a dashboard across clients. Two-way integrations cover Xero, QuickBooks and Zoho Books. The company says data is protected with AES-256 encryption, that it is GDPR compliant, and that each client gets an isolated model trained only on its own data. It has a 4.6 rating from 117 reviews on the QuickBooks App Store and a UK version of its site.

Booke AI, Inc. is based in Delaware and says it is used by more than 10,000 businesses and hundreds of accounting firms in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. It sells to small businesses and to bookkeeping and accounting firms.

The AI Ledger

Our in-depth review

Booke AI takes on the daily grind of a bookkeeping practice: clearing the bank feed, coding transactions, chasing receipts and asking clients what that payment was. It does this from inside the client's Xero or QuickBooks Online file rather than asking anyone to move ledgers, which keeps the switching cost low.

What it does well. Working on top of the existing bank feed means no new bank connections and no change for the client. The client query tool and missing-document requests attack the slowest part of month-end, which is waiting for answers. Per-client models, custom rules and a low-confidence queue keep a person in charge of judgement calls. Multi-client management and a white-label client experience on the firm plan suit practices running dozens of small clients. The 4.6 rating across 117 QuickBooks App Store reviews is independent evidence that it works for real users.

Where it falls short. The published price is 129 US dollars per business per month, which is steep for a small sole trader client whose whole bookkeeping fee may be less than that. Firm pricing is on request, so a practice cannot model its margin without a call, and no free trial is mentioned on the pricing page. There are no UK-specific features described: nothing on VAT coding checks, Making Tax Digital or Sage and FreeAgent support, so UK practices on those ledgers are out. The 80 per cent automation figure is the company's own. Accuracy depends on the bank feed and on how clean each client's history is.

Best for. UK bookkeeping and accounting practices with a sizeable Xero or QuickBooks Online client base and a lot of month-end chasing. Test it on three clients with messy feeds and three with clean ones, and measure how many items still reach a person. Practices on Sage or FreeAgent, or those wanting a full ledger rather than an add-on, should look elsewhere.

Verdict. One of the more practical AI bookkeeping layers for Xero and QuickBooks, with good client chasing built in, but the per-business price only makes sense on firm terms. Get the firm quote in writing before rolling it out.
