About AvidXchange

AvidXchange is accounts payable automation software for mid-market US finance teams. It covers purchase order automation, invoice capture and approval routing, with an AI approval agent in the invoice workflow, and payment automation through its AvidPay network, which pays suppliers by virtual card, direct deposit or mailed cheque. Accounts Payable as a Service lets ERP and accounting vendors embed the same capability.

The company lists more than 200 integrations, naming Oracle NetSuite, QuickBooks, Microsoft, Sage, Acumatica, Blackbaud, MIP Fund Accounting, MRI, Rent Manager and Yardi; Xero is not named. In May 2025 it agreed to be taken private by TPG, with Corpay taking a minority stake, in a deal valuing it at $2.2 billion. In January 2026 Acumatica named it a strategic payments partner for embedded payments, and in June 2026 a Workday integration launched on the Workday Marketplace. The company cites more than 25 years of payments data and one of the largest supplier networks. Pricing is not published.

It is aimed at mid-sized US organisations with heavy invoice volumes, especially in real estate, community associations, construction, healthcare, education and non-profits.

Our in-depth review

For a mid-sized US business, accounts payable is less about reading invoices and more about routing approvals, matching purchase orders and paying hundreds of suppliers in whatever way each one demands. AvidXchange has done that for more than two decades and is now adding AI to the routine parts.

What it does well. The supplier payment network is the real asset. Paying suppliers by virtual card, direct deposit or cheque from one run, with AvidXchange handling enrolment and remittance, removes work that capture-only tools leave behind, and suppliers manage their own payment preferences through the AvidXchange Supplier Hub. Its vertical depth is unusual: integrations with Yardi, MRI, Rent Manager, Blackbaud and MIP Fund Accounting make it a natural choice for property managers, community associations and non-profits. An AI approval agent sits in the invoice workflow, and the 2026 Acumatica and Workday tie-ups show it is still investing.

Where it falls short. It is a US product throughout, from the cheque printing to the payment rails, with no Xero integration, no sterling payments and nothing on UK VAT or MTD, so UK practices will find little use for it. There is no published pricing, contracts are sales-led, and buyers commonly report implementation fees on top, so ask for the full first-year cost. AI capabilities are described in general terms on the site, with little detail on accuracy. Ownership changed with the TPG take-private, and private equity owners typically push price rises and product consolidation, so negotiate renewal caps.

Best for. US organisations with roughly 50 or more staff and high invoice volumes, especially in real estate, construction, healthcare, education and non-profit sectors, and the outsourced accounting firms that run AP for them.

Verdict. A mature, payments-led AP platform for US mid-market finance teams, and the wrong tool for UK practices. US buyers should ask for a demo using their own invoices, check how many suppliers would accept virtual cards, and compare total cost with BILL, which is easier to adopt for smaller firms and works with Xero.
