About Warp

Warp (warp.co) is a New York-based payroll, HR and compliance platform for growing US companies. It runs payroll across US states, files payroll taxes automatically, and adds benefits, 401(k), PTO, expense reimbursements, onboarding and offboarding, and payments to global contractors in more than 200 countries. Its agents are designed to own whole workflows, such as registering tax accounts when a company hires in a new state and resolving tax notices.

The Starter plan covers up to three states; Pro covers all 50 and adds AI tax-notice resolution, advanced HR reporting, SSO and dedicated support. QuickBooks Online, Xero and Slack integrations are listed on every plan, while NetSuite, custom ERP connections and multi-entity support sit in Enterprise. Warp also offers a REST API, a command-line tool and an MCP server. On 25 June 2026 it announced a $60 million Series B led by Battery Ventures, with Peak XV, Sound Ventures and Y Combinator, taking total funding to $85 million, and it says payroll volume is on track for $2 billion this year.

It is aimed at venture-backed and fast-growing US businesses with remote staff across several states, and at the bookkeepers and fractional CFOs who look after them. It does not run UK payroll.

Our in-depth review

Multi-state payroll is where US bookkeepers lose hours: registering new state tax accounts, chasing notices and fixing filings after a remote hire in a new state. Warp's pitch is that its agents take that whole job off the client and the practice, rather than reminding someone to do it.

What it does well. The automation targets the right pain. Warp says its agents register state tax accounts, file returns and resolve the tax notices that follow, which is the work legacy providers leave to the customer. Pricing is published, which is rare in this category: $35 per person per month plus an $89 platform fee on Starter, and $50 plus $129 on Pro. QuickBooks Online and Xero integrations come on every plan, so journals reach the books without a separate connector, and the API, command-line tool and MCP server suit technical clients. The June 2026 Series B gives it runway.

Where it falls short. The per-person price adds up quickly. A 40-person client on Pro pays over $2,000 a month before benefits, more than Gusto charges for similar headcount. Starter covers only three states, so the multi-state promise really starts at Pro. NetSuite and multi-entity support are Enterprise only. Warp is young, with around 50 staff by its own account, so support depth and handling of edge cases are less proven than at ADP or Paylocity. The growth figures are company-reported. It is US-only and irrelevant to UK payroll.

Best for. Venture-backed US startups and scale-ups with staff in several states, plus the bookkeepers, accountants and fractional CFOs serving them, especially on QuickBooks Online or Xero. In a trial, check how a new-state hire is registered, see a real tax notice being resolved, and confirm what support looks like when a run goes wrong. Also check the QuickBooks or Xero journal mapping by department before moving a client across.

Verdict. One of the strongest AI-native options for multi-state US clients, with clear pricing, but the per-person cost and young support organisation mean it suits growth companies better than price-sensitive small employers.
