About TaxStatus
TaxStatus is a platform for US financial advisers and tax professionals that pulls client financial data directly from IRS records instead of relying on uploaded documents. Clients give consent and verify their identity through ID.me, and the firm then sees income from W-2s, 1099s, Social Security, retirement distributions, rental and business income, accounts by custodian with values, and K-1, employment history and year-on-year tax summary reports.
Its Observations feature, launched in July 2026, checks each client's IRS record against more than 175 observations across six disciplines, including tax, investment, estate and insurance planning, and flags more than 50 life events such as a job change or inheritance; the company's own sample describes this as rules-based rather than AI. Proactive alerts warn of audits, collections activity, penalties, fraud attempts and refunds, and a library of over 100 planning strategies supports reports. It integrates with the IRS CAF system for bulk transcripts, with ID.me, and offers SSO on the Firm plan. Pricing is published, from 900 US dollars a year for up to 30 clients. Figures such as 26 hours saved per client are the company's own.
It is aimed at US wealth managers, financial advisers and tax practices offering planning. It has no UK equivalent.

Our in-depth review
TaxStatus solves a familiar problem for US advisers: clients who never send the documents. By pulling data directly from the IRS with the client's consent, it gives a firm a verified picture of income, accounts and tax history without chasing paperwork, and then uses that picture to prompt planning conversations.
What it does well. The data source is the strength. IRS-sourced figures are harder to dispute than client uploads, and the reports on accounts by custodian, income by type and year-on-year tax history give an adviser a solid baseline quickly. Proactive alerts for audits, penalties, collections and fraud attempts are genuinely useful for client service, turning the firm into the first to know rather than the last. The observations library and life-event flags help junior staff spot planning openings. Pricing is published, with Starter at 900 US dollars a year for 30 clients and extra clients at 2 dollars a month.
Where it falls short. Despite sitting in an AI directory, the company's own material describes its observations as rules-based, with no AI, so buyers should judge it as a data and alerting service rather than an AI tool. The jump from Starter to the Firm plan, at 1,000 dollars a month or 10,000 a year for 240 households, is steep for a small practice, and both published plans require a one-year commitment. The planning add-on costs a further 50 dollars per household a year. Data depends on client consent through ID.me, which some older clients will resist. Claims such as 250% more assets uncovered are the company's own. Security details sit on a separate trust page and are worth reviewing.
Best for. US wealth managers and advisory-focused tax firms that want verified IRS data and ongoing account monitoring for their client base. Firms wanting to build and sell tax plans from returns should compare TaxPlanIQ, and those after AI research and drafting should look at TaxGPT.
Verdict. A strong source of verified IRS data and alerts for US advisers, but it is a data service more than an AI tool, and the pricing suits firms with a sizeable client book.
