About Spotlight Reporting
Spotlight Reporting is a cloud reporting, forecasting, dashboard and consolidation platform aimed at accounting and advisory firms that want to deliver management reporting to clients. Its products are Reporting, Forecasting, Dashboard, Multi (consolidation) and Sustain (ESG reporting, sold separately).
The AI layer is Spotlight AI. The vendor says its enhanced AI executive summaries calculate the figures first and then layer AI insight on top, and that Spotlight AI can generate or reformat commentary in the executive summary or action plan. An AI suggestions feature is also listed. The platform connects to Xero and QuickBooks and can bring in non-financial data such as Google Analytics.
Spotlight says it has partnered with over 500 firms, and its site carries testimonials from firms such as William Buck and Forvis Mazars. A 14 day free trial is offered. It is positioned for accountants and advisors producing recurring client reports, and for finance teams that want reporting and forecasts without building them in spreadsheets.

Our in-depth review
Spotlight Reporting is a long-established reporting and forecasting tool that has added AI commentary to a platform firms already use for client packs. The AI is the newest layer, not the foundation, which is the right order of work for finance reporting.
What it does well. The vendor says the figures are calculated first and the AI writes commentary on top, so the numbers in an executive summary come from the ledger rather than from a language model. Commentary can be generated or reformatted in the executive summary and action plan, which is where advisers lose hours each month. Reporting, forecasting, dashboards and multi-entity consolidation sit in one product, and Xero and QuickBooks connections are listed. A 14 day trial lets a practice test it on real client files.
Where it falls short. Prices are not on the pages we read; they sit behind profile-specific plan pages, so budget for a sales conversation. Sage is not mentioned on the homepage, so check your ledger is supported before you commit. The AI features are described only briefly, and we could not verify how much editing the generated commentary needs. The site does not name a security certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 on the pages we read, though it links to security and policy pages worth reading in full. Setup effort is modest compared with full planning suites, but templates still take time to tune per client, so allow a few hours for the first pack. Lock-in is moderate: reports, forecasts and branding live inside the platform, so export your templates before you commit to a long term plan.
Best for. Advisory-minded practices on Xero or QuickBooks that produce monthly management packs for several clients and want consistent commentary. It also suits finance teams that report on a handful of entities and need forecasts alongside actuals.
Verdict. A credible, mature reporting platform where the AI is applied to commentary rather than calculation. In a trial, run one real client through a full month: check how much of the AI commentary you keep, how long the first template takes to build, and how consolidation behaves with intercompany items. If you need heavier consolidation or planning, compare Datarails or Joiin; for simple dashboards, Fathom is the closest rival. Ask the vendor how AI commentary is priced, whether it is included in every plan, and how client data is used, since the pages we read do not say.
