About Cube

Cube (Cube Planning, Inc.) is an FP&A platform that connects finance data from accounting, CRM, HR and payroll, payments and data warehouse systems, applies business logic, and delivers the results in the tools finance teams already use: Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Slack and Teams.

The vendor describes four FP&Agents covering data management, analysis, planning and business partnering, plus a Cube MCP Server so AI assistants can query Cube data. Named connections include Oracle, Sage, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365, ADP, HubSpot, Snowflake and Google Sheets. The vendor states it is SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 certified and HIPAA compliant, with SSO through Okta, Microsoft Entra and Google, role-based access and an audit trail.

Cube has raised funding from investors including Battery Ventures and Mayfield, according to TechCrunch coverage of its 2022 Series B. It is positioned for mid-market finance teams and the advisers who support them, with a free trial available.

Our in-depth review

Cube is a spreadsheet-first FP&A platform that has repositioned itself around AI agents. For accountants, the draw is that planning and reporting stay in Excel and Google Sheets while the data underneath is governed.

What it does well. The spreadsheet front end means finance teams do not have to retrain, and results can also reach Slack, Teams and PowerPoint. The vendor describes four agents for data, analysis, planning and business partnering, plus an MCP server for connecting AI assistants to Cube data. Security claims are specific: SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, SSO and an audit trail, all stated by the vendor. A free trial is offered, which is unusual in this segment.

Where it falls short. The site names no customers and publishes no prices, so you cannot judge fit from the page alone. QuickBooks is not listed among named connections on the page we read, which matters for small practices. The agents are new and the vendor's own descriptions are all we could check, so treat accuracy claims as untested. Implementation is the real cost in any FP&A rollout, and the platform is built for finance teams rather than small bookkeeping clients. Lock-in is also a consideration, because models, rules and agent logic built in Cube are not easy to move elsewhere. Smaller practices may find the implementation effort out of proportion to their needs.

Best for. Mid-market finance teams, and advisory practices serving them, that already live in Excel and want governed data, consolidated reporting and planning without moving to a new interface. It is built around US-style finance teams and ERPs such as Oracle, Dynamics and Sage.

Verdict. A well-funded, security-forward option for teams that want AI help without leaving spreadsheets. In a trial, test how long the first data connection takes, whether agent answers trace back to source data, and what the price looks like at your entity count. For lighter reporting, Spotlight Reporting or Fathom are cheaper routes; for heavier planning, compare Datarails. Ask for a reference customer of similar size, and confirm in writing which agent features are generally available today rather than on a roadmap.
