About Balance

Balance is a Y Combinator W26 startup (getbalance.ai) building an AI-native accounting firm for small and mid-sized businesses. It ingests business context across revenue, payroll, banking, expenses and the general ledger, then uses AI agents to categorise transactions, reconcile accounts and surface anomalies continuously, with a qualified accountant signing off before anything is finalised.

Founded in early 2026 by Mathias Lovring, Emil Munk and a technical co-founder, the company is based in London and positions itself as a modern accounting partner that keeps finance accurate and compliant in the background.

Its assistant, Bea, is reachable through Slack, WhatsApp or email so founders can ask plain-language questions about their numbers.

Key Features

  • AI agent 'Bea' that categorises transactions, reconciles accounts and drafts reports
  • Real-time, audit-ready books rather than a once-a-month scramble
  • Accessible via Slack, WhatsApp or email
  • Human accountant review on every close

Our in-depth review

Balance is one of the newer entrants in the crowded 'AI does your books, a human checks them' category, and on paper it ticks the right boxes: continuous reconciliation, transaction coding, anomaly flagging and a chat assistant you can reach from Slack or WhatsApp.

What it does well. The pitch of real-time, audit-ready books instead of a monthly panic is genuinely appealing for founders who currently rely on a part-time bookkeeper and a shoebox of receipts. The human sign-off model is sensible and addresses the obvious trust problem with fully automated books.

Where it falls short. Balance only incorporated in early 2026, has a tiny team, and its public track record is measured in months, not years. Claims about accuracy and coverage across industries are the company's own and have not been independently audited. The firm-plus-software model also means you are partly buying a service, so quality will hinge on the accountants behind the AI as it scales, which is exactly where young firms tend to strain.

Best for. Early-stage startups and small businesses that want hands-off bookkeeping and are comfortable being an early customer.

Verdict. Promising and worth a trial, but treat current capability claims as unproven until it has more customers and time behind it.

No published pricing page. Balance sells through a booked demo and says it charges a flat rate rather than itemised month-end billing.
