About Andera

Andera is an AI platform for internal controls work. An auditor supplies the control, the testing attributes and the evidence, and Andera reads that evidence in whatever format it arrives, tests each attribute, flags exceptions and returns an annotated workpaper in the format the team already uses. In September 2026 it added Andera GRC, a module covering the risk and control matrix, risks, issues, narratives and a dashboard, with tests linked back to controls.

The company raised a 37 million dollar Series A led by Lightspeed, announced on 17 June 2026, with Bain Capital also backing it. It is SOC 2 Type II certified and says customer data is not used to train models or shared with outside providers. In August 2026 RSM US announced an alliance focused on AI-enabled control testing built on Andera's technology. The company says deployment needs no engineering team, and positions itself against RPA scripts that need constant maintenance.

It is aimed at large internal audit and SOX functions and at accounting firms with heavy controls testing workloads, rather than at small UK practices.

Our in-depth review

Andera points AI at the least glamorous part of assurance work: the repetitive testing of control attributes against piles of screenshots, exports and PDFs. For a firm or in-house team that spends weeks each year on SOX or operational controls testing, that is a real cost line, and the question is whether the output can be trusted by a reviewer without redoing the work.

What it does well. The scope is narrow and sensible. Andera takes evidence in its messy native formats and returns a workpaper in the team's existing layout, so reviewers are not forced into a new template. The new GRC module means the risk and control matrix, issues and test results can now live in one place rather than across spreadsheets. SOC 2 Type II certification and a clear no-training position on customer data answer the first questions an audit committee will ask. The RSM alliance is a meaningful outside signal that the approach has survived a large firm's methodology review.

Where it falls short. There is no public pricing and no trial route; every evaluation starts with a demo and an enterprise procurement cycle. The headline time savings are the company's own figures, with no breakdown by control type. The business is young, its customer list is described rather than named on the site, and there is little independent user feedback yet. Nothing on the site addresses UK frameworks or UK listed company reporting specifically, and it does not connect to the small-practice ledgers such as Xero or QuickBooks.

Best for. Internal audit and SOX teams at large companies, and accounting firms with a sizeable controls assurance practice, who can supply a well-defined control library and a set of past tests to benchmark against. A pilot should run the same controls in parallel with the manual approach and measure reviewer rework, not just preparation time. Firms whose pain is document tie-out inside the audit file may find DataSnipper a better fit, and smaller audit practices will get more from Fieldguide or AuditFile.

Verdict. Promising and well funded for high-volume controls testing, but sold to enterprises and large firms, and too new to judge on track record. Worth a structured pilot for the right team, not for a typical UK practice.
