About DataSnipper

DataSnipper is an automation platform for audit and finance teams that started inside Microsoft Excel and now runs AI agents across the audit. The core tool lets users match documents to figures, extract data from forms, compare versions and leave linked snips as evidence in their working papers. Its Agent Library adds Excel Agents, Disclosure Agents, DocuMine, AI Extractions and an agent builder, and Alwin by DataSnipper runs agents through end-to-end procedures in the cloud while staff review and sign off. Add-ons include a Financial Statement Suite and UpLink, which handles client document requests without clients needing to log in.

Plans are Start, Accelerate and Elevate. Accelerate adds the AI agents and integrations with Xero, QuickBooks, SAP Concur, SharePoint, OneDrive, Box and Dropbox, and Elevate adds Alwin, planning mode, review workflows and client spaces. Founded in Amsterdam in 2017, the company raised a 100 million dollar Series B led by Index Ventures in 2024 at a reported 1 billion dollar valuation and later bought UpLink. It is SOC 2 compliant and says customer data is not used for training.

It serves external and internal audit, financial control, tax and advisory teams of all sizes.

Our in-depth review

DataSnipper became the default answer to a simple question: how do auditors stop retyping figures from PDFs into Excel and ticking them off by hand? Its job for a practice is to make evidence matching fast and visibly linked, and its newer agents aim to take whole procedures off the team's plate.

What it does well. It meets auditors where they already work. Document matching, form extraction and snips inside Excel are quick to learn and produce evidence that reviewers can click through. The customer base, which includes most large networks and many mid-tier firms, means new joiners often already know it. The Accelerate tier's Xero and QuickBooks integrations are directly relevant to UK practices whose clients run on those ledgers, and UpLink tackles client requests without forcing clients to create accounts. SOC 2 and a no-training policy are in place.

Where it falls short. No prices are published on any tier, and there is no free trial on the pricing page, so every evaluation goes through sales. The useful AI agents and the ledger integrations sit on Accelerate or above, and the end-to-end Alwin agents only on Elevate, so the entry tier is essentially the classic matching tool. Case study figures such as 85 percent time savings are customer claims published by the company. Smaller UK practices may find the cost hard to justify for a few audits a year, and the product's breadth now takes real training to use well.

Best for. Audit and finance teams of any size that live in Excel and do enough sample testing, vouching and tie-outs to justify per-user licences. A trial should cover one full engagement area, such as revenue testing, and compare review time as well as preparation time, and should test the Xero or QuickBooks link on a real client. Firms wanting a lighter Excel vouching tool from their existing audit vendor can compare Caseware Extractly, and those focused on AI quality review before sign-off can look at Cortea.

Verdict. Still the benchmark for Excel-based audit evidence automation, now with credible agents. Expect to pay for the higher tiers to get the AI that justifies the switch.
