About Spark AI (Rightworks)
Spark AI is the AI assistant built into the Rightworks hosted cloud environment for accounting firms. Rightworks, formerly Right Networks, hosts the applications firms already use. Spark AI drafts emails, memos, proposals and meeting summaries, helps respond to tax notices, explains accounting and tax rules including GAAP, GASB, ASC and IRS regulations, and analyses data exported from other applications to compare periods and spot trends.
Rightworks says Spark AI is included with a Rightworks cloud subscription, with no separate price listed. The company says prompts, documents and conversations are never shared with unauthorised third parties, that resources sit behind private, identity-aware gateways, and that messages and uploads stay within Rightworks systems. The public page names no certifications or independent audits. Rightworks says it connects with everyday tools such as QuickBooks and Xero. Its predecessor, Spark by Rightworks Labs, was built on OpenAI models, and in August 2024 Rightworks reported more than 3,300 users across over 1,000 firms; no newer figure has been published.
It is aimed at US accounting, tax and advisory firms that already host with Rightworks and want to keep staff away from public chatbots. Starter prompts mean no technical knowledge is needed, but the technical content is geared to US standards rather than HMRC or UK GAAP.

Our in-depth review
Most firms now want a private alternative to staff pasting client data into public chatbots. Spark AI is Rightworks' answer: a general-purpose assistant inside the hosted workspace where the firm's applications already run, so drafting, research and quick analysis happen without data leaving that environment.
What it does well. The value is placement and price. For existing Rightworks customers it is included in the cloud subscription, which removes the budget conversation, and it sits in the workspace staff already log into. The use cases are practical rather than flashy: client emails and proposals, first drafts of replies to IRS notices, explanations of standards, and period comparisons from exported data. Starter prompts help staff who have never used AI tools. Rightworks says prompts and uploads stay inside its systems behind identity-aware gateways, which answers the first question most partners ask.
Where it falls short. It is not sold on its own, so a firm that does not host with Rightworks cannot buy it. Its knowledge content is built around US standards and the IRS, so a UK practice would get little from the technical explanations and would need to check anything touching HMRC or UK GAAP. Analysis depends on uploading exports rather than a live ledger connection, and the only published usage figures are two years old and relate to the earlier Spark product. Security assurances are the vendor's own, with no named certifications or audit reports on the public page, so ask for SOC reports before staff upload client files.
Best for. US firms of any size already on Rightworks hosting that want a no-extra-cost assistant for drafting and research and a sanctioned alternative to public chatbots. In a trial, run a week of real client emails and two or three genuine notice replies through it, and check every rule citation against the source. Firms that mainly need tax research may get more from a dedicated tool such as Blue J in this directory.
Verdict. A sensible inclusion for Rightworks customers, not a reason to move hosting to Rightworks. Existing customers should switch it on, write a short policy on what can be uploaded, and treat its answers as first drafts. UK firms, and anyone not hosting with Rightworks, will find better-fitting options elsewhere in this directory.
