About Maxed
Maxed is an AI-native platform from Maxed Life, Inc. that aims to run a CPA firm's operations in one place: client onboarding, billing, close, tax preparation, documents, bookkeeping and a client portal. Two groups of agents sit on top. Max handles back-office work such as document classification, transaction categorisation and bank reconciliation, while Ed handles client-facing work such as drafting replies and sending document reminders.
The site names QuickBooks, Bill.com, Outlook, Microsoft 365 and file storage as connections and says Maxed runs alongside a firm's existing tools so it can switch over gradually. Every client-facing output waits behind a CPA approval gate, every action is logged, and the company says it does not train shared models on client data, with more on a trust page. The company is based in Miami, Florida, and press links on the site refer to an $850,000 pre-seed round. Time savings on the site, such as 10 to 15 hours a week, are described as modelled rather than measured.
It is positioned for small and mid-sized US CPA firms and is currently onboarding a small group of design partners at a discounted rate rather than selling generally.

Our in-depth review
Maxed wants to be the whole operating system for a small US accounting firm, from onboarding and billing to bookkeeping and tax prep, with AI agents doing the routine work. It is at a very early stage, so this review is about the idea and the design choices more than proven results.
What it does well. The design principles are sound. Splitting agents into a back-office group (classification, categorisation, reconciliation) and a client-facing group (replies, reminders) maps to how firms actually divide work. Putting every client-facing output behind a CPA approval gate and logging every action is the right default for a regulated profession, and the commitment not to train shared models on client data answers an obvious concern. Running alongside existing tools rather than demanding a big-bang migration lowers the risk of trying it.
Where it falls short. It is not yet a generally available product. The company is onboarding design partners, has raised a small pre-seed round, and publishes no pricing. The integration list is short and US-centred, with QuickBooks and Bill.com named and no Xero, Sage, FreeAgent or IRIS, and no UK features such as MTD or HMRC agent services. The time savings on the site are modelled, not measured, and a platform that covers billing, close, tax and portal at once carries a high risk of being shallow in each area at this stage. Firms joining as design partners should expect rough edges and plan for the possibility that the product changes direction.
Best for. Small US CPA firms on QuickBooks that are comfortable acting as design partners and want early influence over a new platform. UK practices should look at Combinely, Karbon or Financial Cents in this directory, which are already in general use. Any firm joining should ask for the trust page documentation, data export terms and a clear road map before moving client data.
Verdict. A thoughtfully designed but very early AI platform for US firms, with good governance instincts. Interesting to watch, but not yet a product to run a practice on, and of little relevance to UK firms today.
